From 2012 to the present day, World Giving Day has turned into a genuine global movement involving more than 90 countries and inspiring millions of people to donate and collaborate to build a fairer and more solidarity-based world. In Italy, Giving Tuesday has been organised by the AIFR Foundation since 2017, with the aim of developing philanthropy and supporting the Italian Third Sector through numerous initiatives aimed mainly at the new generations.
The date and the concept behind ‘GivingTuesday‘ were chosen in a way to contrast the frenzy of daily consumerism, represented by ‘Black Friday‘, the Friday of the year when we are overwhelmed by special promotions and sales, and ‘Cyber Monday‘. There are several initiatives to take part actively in promoting the culture of giving: generosity is the key value for generating change because it gives everyone the power to make a positive impact in their own life and in the lives of others, whether it is donating money, volunteering or simply smiling at someone.
BioRep is actively involved in numerous international research networks, including the Michael J Fox Foundation, which through numerous research programmes aims to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease (take part in the giving Tuesday through the following link) and national ones, including the ASSOCIAZIONE ITALIANA SLA Onlus (AISLA), which since 1983 has been the point of reference for the protection, assistance and care of ALS sufferers and has just launched its Christmas campaign to support scientific research on ALS: “The Good Taste of Research” – AriSLA
Scientific research needs the constant support of the scientific community, institutions and civil society to make progress towards the discovery of effective therapies. Only through a shared commitment is it possible to make progress in curing diseases, fighting inequalities and improving everyday life.
On social media, everyone can finally contribute to make generosity go ‘viral’ by posting their own initiative with the hashtag #GivingTuesday to support their favourite organisation or to promote a solidarity project.
